CO2CRC CEO Dr Matthias Raab accepting the Award for Enduring Industry-Research Collaboration from Cooperative Research Australia.
CO2CRC Chairman, the Hon Martin Ferguson AM, receives the award on behalf of CO2CRC.
CO2CRC is proud to announce that it has been awarded the ‘Award for Enduring Industry-Research Collaboration’ at Cooperative Research Australia’s (CRA) 2025 Awards for Excellence in Innovation, recognising our long-standing contribution to carbon capture and storage (CCS) innovation and the strength of our collaborative research model. This prestigious award highlights our scientific excellence and the strategic value of being part of Australia’s leading CCS research organisation.
This reaffirms the unique role CO2CRC plays in Australia’s clean energy future and global emission reduction efforts—bridging world-class science with commercial applications to deliver real-world solutions for reducing industrial emissions.
The CRA Excellence in Innovation award recognises enduring industry and research collaboration and its impact. CO2CRC’s nomination was underpinned by:
- Over two decades of sustained research excellence, continuing the CRC legacy since 2015 as an independent entity.
- Development and operation of the Otway International Test Centre (OITC)—a globally renowned facility supporting full-chain CCS R&D.
- Successful partnerships with over 30 industry and research members, including multinationals, government agencies, and leading universities.
- Translation of scientific research into deployable technologies, such as cost-effective CO₂ injection and monitoring systems, and the recent commercialisation pathway for HyCaps, our modular carbon capture system.
- Strategic leadership in shaping regulatory, technical and commercial frameworks for CCS in Australia and the Asia-Pacific.

This award recognises CO2CRC’s achievements and validates the collective value delivered to our members.
CO2CRC is uniquely positioned at the intersection of research, policy, and industry, providing members with:
- Access to Australia’s only onshore CCS test facility—enabling technology development, field trials, and regulatory validation in commercially relevant demonstrations under real conditions.
- Collaborative research programs that reduce risk, lower costs, and accelerate the commercial readiness of carbon management technologies.
- A platform for engagement with government and international collaborators, opening funding and export opportunities.
- Strategic guidance informed by decades of CCS experience and informed by real-world deployment.
- The ability to influence and participate in groundbreaking, industry-led research that responds directly to pragmatic emission reduction challenges.
This award reflects the long-term vision and commitment of our members, board, and staff and the collaborative ecosystem we have created together.
“Quality is no coincidence” said Dr Matthias Raab, CEO of CO2CRC. “This award reflects over two decades of work by visionary leaders before me, a dedicated and professional board, brilliant colleagues and staff, and hundreds of researchers who’ve made lasting contributions”
The Hon Martin Ferguson AM, Chair of CO2CRC, accepted the award on behalf of the organisation, underscoring our legacy as one of Australia’s longest-standing CRCs and a key contributor to global CCS knowledge.
As we look ahead, CO2CRC remains committed to driving innovation in carbon capture, utilisation, and storage, delivering technologies and research that are practical, scalable, and aligned with global emission reduction ambitions.
We thank CRA for this recognition and our members for their continuous support.
