At the recent Ministerial Meeting of the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF) in Abu Dhabi, CO2CRC’s Otway Stage 3 Project was formally recognised by the CSLF.
The Otway Stage 3 CO2 Storage Management and Subsurface M&V Project is the third CO2CRC project to be recognised by the CSLF. This recognition helps to highlight that the CO2CRC Otway National Research Facility is the most charactersied research site for carbon storage in the world and represents over 13 years of world class research.
- Stage 1: 2004 – 2009 (Concept) – Demonstrated safe transport, injection and storage of CO2 into a depleted gas reservoir.
- Stage 2: 2009 – 2019 (Risk Reduction) – Demonstrated safe injection and monitoring into a saline formation.
- Stage 3: 2016 – 2019 (Cost Reduction) – Demonstrate safe, reliable and cost-effective subsurface monitoring.
The Stage 3 Project will provide industry with a toolbox of technologies and methodologies that will be fit-for-purpose and unobtrusive, whilst providing significant cost reduction for industries’ monitoring and verification needs.
