Australia’s selection to host the prestigious 2026 Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies (GHGT) Conference is further confirmation of the country’s leadership in the sector. This landmark event will take place in Perth, showcasing Australia’s leadership in carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) on the global stage.
CO2CRC will co-host the conference in Perth in 2026, in partnership with the Australian Energy Producers, CSIRO, and the Australian Government’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).
Known as GHGT-18, the conference is run by the IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme. It brings together over 1,000 CCUS researchers, industry leaders, government officials, and stakeholders from around the world to discuss and share the latest developments with the technology.
The announcement was made at last week’s closing ceremony of the GHGT-17 conference in Canada, where CO2CRC Chief Executive, Dr Matthias Raab, delivered a plenary keynote address. The successful bid, secured in May in Copenhagen following a series of presentations, including a collaborative presentation by Dr Raab and Paul Feron from CSIRO.
Dr Raab stated: “Australia is honoured to host GHGT-18 in Perth. This event underscores Australia’s commitment to advancing CCUS technologies, which are crucial for achieving net-zero emissions. Our successful bid reflects the hard work and dedication of our team and partners, including CSIRO.”
The 2026 conference will mark the third time Australia has hosted this global event, following successful conferences in Cairns (2000) and Melbourne (2018). The event is expected to highlight Australia’s comparative advantage in CCUS, with world-class geology, industry experience, and strong regional partnerships.
The conference is expected to attract significant international attention, providing a platform for Australia to demonstrate its advancements in CCUS technology and its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
